MESEO for Kids: Discover how satellites help us every day!
Have you ever wondered how we know if it will rain tomorrow?
Or how your phone knows the quickest way to get to a friend’s house?
The answer is simple: satellites!
MESEO has created a new introductory video especially for middle school students, to explain in a clear and fun way what Earth Observation satellites are and why they are so important in our everyday lives.
In the video, you will discover that:
- satellites are our “eyes in space”,
- they collect data used for weather forecasts, GPS navigation, and monitoring fires, oceans, and climate change,
- billions of people around the world rely on satellite data every day.
But how can so many people access this information quickly and safely at the same time?
This is where MESEO comes in.
MESEO is a research project funded by the European Commission, bringing together 9 partners from 7 countries. The project is developing and testing an innovative system that can:
- access and process huge amounts of satellite data,
- ensure cybersecurity,
- make data available only to authorised users.
In the future, MESEO will support scientists, meteorologists and emergency services, and help tackle global challenges such as:
- tracking methane emissions,
- improving food security by monitoring agricultural crops.
Watch the video and find out how satellites help us take care of our planet!
