MESEO: Closing year two with strong technical progress and growing community engagement
As MESEO completes its second year, the project enters an important new phase. Over the past 12 months the consortium has consolidated major technical achievements, creating a solid basis for the year ahead.
Advancing the MESEO System Architecture
This year marked a significant milestone: the first comprehensive assessment of the MESEO system.
Both the on-board and on-ground segments have been strengthened, ensuring the system architecture evolves in a cohesive and integrated manner.
In the space segment, partners successfully achieved the first integrated execution combining payload acquisition, AI-based image analysis, and data delivery.
On the ground, the distributed processing architecture has matured, enabling seamless interactions. The establishment of an end-to-end validation environment provides a clear pathway for testing and measuring performance improvements.
Further progress was made in data sovereignty and security, with renewed focus on how MESEO ensures trust, interoperability, and controlled data exchange.
Finally, both Green Deal use cases—crop classification and methane detection—have advanced significantly. New datasets, AI models, and processing pipelines are now ready to be integrated into the MESEO demonstration activities planned for the next year.
A year of active outreach and community building
Alongside technical achievements, MESEO has strengthened its communication and dissemination efforts. In 2025, the project undertook a range of initiatives to increase visibility, foster collaboration, and engage diverse audiences.
The website and social media channels have been regularly updated with news, articles, and videos. The consortium also produced new multimedia content, including a video for a specialist audience (primary stakeholders) and educational materials aimed at younger audiences.
Engagement activities have been a core focus this year. MESEO hosted its first Stakeholder Workshop, while partners took part in university seminars, thematic webinars, and several EU-level events. In addition, the participation in the Horizon Booster programme further supported the project’s exploitation strategy and reinforced ties with other European initiatives, such as LEONSEGS and DOMINO-E. These efforts underline MESEO’s commitment not only to developing innovative technologies, but also to contributing openly to Europe’s space data ecosystem.
Looking ahead to year three
With strong architectural foundations and early demonstrations, MESEO enters its third year ready to prepare for the final end-to-end demonstrations. The path ahead is ambitious, but last year’s progress confirms the consortium’s capacity to move forward with confidence.
As MESEO continues to bridge innovation, collaboration, and societal impact, year three promises to be a decisive step toward unlocking a new generation of efficient, secure, and scalable Earth Observation services for Europe.
